There’s A Pill In the Keyboard
January 28th, 2013Author: Karen McGreeveyMikey, as you may remember, has a heart murmur. So because of this,
it is necessary that I give him a quarter of a pill daily.
I’ve gotten pretty good about getting that pill down him – most days.
However, I suppose if you’d look around the house later in the day you might see what I see, a quarter of a pill. In fact, sometimes I’ve found them days later.
The question then becomes what day’s pill is that?
In fact, as I was typing this post I found one of the pills in my computer keyboard. No wonder Mikey likes resting his head on it!
It seems to me I’m going to have to try a different tack in pill distribution.
We do have one of those “pill shooter” things and we’ve also put pills in the cat food, both solutions worked with the others over the years so I’ll be revisiting those.

P.S. While the Pill Gun is a good resource to use to give a cat pills, I am still going to work at getting Mikey’s pills in him without it.

I sometimes wonder what I will have to do if I ever have to give Spitty a pill? Pawcuff him to a chair and feed him catnip until he has no ability to resist???? I hope it is a l-o-n-g time before I ever have to find out! Good luck with Mikey! May you not find any more 1/4 pills anywhere but inside the kitty!
When Hannah had to have tablets I crushed them to powder and put it in strong flavoured food – it very rarely failed.

Our mom uses the pill pockets when she has to give us pills. You could give them a try.
Pill pockets are worth trying. They are yummy. Our humans got too smart a while ago and now our pills come in liquid form. Unfair! But easier, we agree! Purrs…
Hmmm, all this talk of “pills” confuses me! Are they some kind of special treat? Do the Humans keep them in their pockets or something?? I never had one. Every so often the Human drops a pill and it’s really fun to watch her get down on her hands and knees and search for it for fear I will eat it and poison myself. Hey–unless it’s toona flavored, I don’t think there’s much chance of THAT!
I’m pretty rubbishy at pilling my cats – so I tend to crush them in with their food and hope for the best (I have been known to go to the vet’s in desperation to get them to help!).
