Happy New Year!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

from “The Boys!”

We have been “roaming” around the Internet these last few days or so and found this cute little kitty in the yard. She looks a bit like a distant relative of our dear, long-gone auntie, Scooter!

Of course, we’re a bit bigger than she is.

So, big or small, round or tall, the message we all share with you is a great big Happy New Year!

Yours in getting to spend New Year’s
with your loved ones,

Boring!…

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

That best describes what “The Boys” think of these last few days since Christmas!funny-pictures-box-cats-are-bored

Nothing cutesy going on with them; they played with their toys until they got worn out–”The Boys, not the toys!

I suppose I could say, though, Bowie does come skidding to the kitchen when he hears us pick up the bag of dry food (we often call them “crunchies!”).

In fact, Bowie gets so excited when he hears the rustling sound of the sack being opened, he runs around in circles.

Keeping Your Cat From Destroying Your Houseplants

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Yesterday, I told you a little tale about Snowflake from our “first family” of cats.

I indicated I had found an article by Greg Parsons at EzineArticles, and said I would include it in today’s post. So, here it is…

Greg begins…

“From your cat’s point of view, plants and cats are a natural together. The leaves are great for nibbling, and if there is funny pictures enough room in the pot (it does not take much room), then the soil will make a good alternative to a litter box.

Unfortunately, people do not see things the same way as their cat does.

The key to a peaceful coexistence between cats and houseplants is to give your cat a garden of his own, and at the same time, make the rest of your plants as undesirable or as hard to get into as possible.

Some plants you can grow for your kitty garden are catnip, valerian, alfalfa, rye, wheat, parsley, and thyme. These are cat-friendly plants, of which are loved by most of our feline friends. Keeping these types of fresh greens growing takes care of your cat’s need to nibble.

Here are some tips on how to keep your houseplants safe from kitty:

Cats and Houseplants: Nary the Twain Shall Mix

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Over the years, we have had house plants and we have had cats.

From that, we learned early on that in most instances, the two do not mix!

Snowflake, in our “first family” of four cats was a “holy terror” when it Playing with the plant...came to houseplants. When we first got her, I was in my “green thumb stage, and had a lot of houseplants; perhaps too many, as they were everywhere.

In particular, I had a metal 4-shelf bookcase that I used for a plants’ stand. Each shelf was loaded with plants, and it was beautifully adorned.

Snowflake apparently thought so, too! Because she would often “roam the shelves” looking at the green creations.

And anything on the shelf that got in her way was batted (okay, practically shoved) off with her paw. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time picking up plants, plant dirt and plant pots from the floor.

Before I finally said “Enough.”

It was then I decided Snowflake’s health and well-being were more important than my plants. So I chose to keep two plants up high on a plant pole and the rest were taken to work.

I recently read an article by Greg Parsons at EzineArticles in which he supports the premise to be wary of having plants around cats. Greg also provides some tips for keeping your cat and the plant at odds and safe.

Tomorrow, I’ll include Greg’s article of insights and analysis for you to read; so stop back tomorrow.

Cat Hairballs: The Dirty Little Secret

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Awww, isn’t he cute?

He’s so soft. He’s so cuddly. Isn’t he cute when he plays

funny pictures of cats with captions

on his back and bats his front paws in the air? He’s just so furrrry.

Uhnnn, uhnnn, uhnn, oops!

Maybe not so cute after all!

Many’s the night I’ve been awakened from a pretty sound sleep to the familiar noises of one of our four feline fur “Boys” in the throes of cat sickness. Ugh!

Have you ever noticed that in all the advertising and promotions you see on TV or read in the newspapers or magazines about getting a cat, cat sickness or cat hairball is the “dirty little secret” no one talks about?

Yet, sometimes it seems like that’s all they do.

Of course, when you have four a lot of things associated with one cat is multiplied times four. Or 10, if they do it more than once in any 24-hour period!

So what do you when you hear the familiar “Uhnnn, uhnnn, uhnn?”

You have a couple of choices:

The Patter of Little Cat Feet

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Oh what a time at our house these last few days!

Reindeer hooves on the roof, and loud “ho, ho, ho” ing. And even the promise of new faces.

“The Boys” have decided they want a little brother…or sister.

Actually, Chuck and I did…then the boys got into the act. We’ve found a breeder nearby (like 40 minutes from us) who has some little ones that are available; some “now” and some “soon”. It’s all any of us can do to not call that telephone number.

In addition, the lady takes PayPal!

But knowing us, getting new kitties is much like eating potato chips…we cant stop at just one!

Especially when they look like that alfalpha <<<---- and daniel2 that —>>>. After all, one has to have someone to grow up with.

We’re also just not sure if we really want to deal with the patter of little feet again. And, somehow I’m not so sure “the Boys” will take to the new additions as much as they think they will.

The new additions will be fun for “the Boys” to wrestle and play with for a while, and then we, Chuck and I, will have to take care of the “wee” ones.

Oh, the bother!

Yours to getting new little feet,

Four to six inches are predicted. Ugh!

We’re Really Lovin’ On Our Second Cat Family

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I think I mentioned before that Chuck and I are experiencing the joys of our “second christmas-cat-us.0family”.

Previously, in addition to several dogs–not necessarily all at one time–we had four other cats: Muffy, Snowflake, Jonny Cat I, and Scooter.

Over time, as happens, they all eventually passed away.

It’s because of Muffy, though, that we no longer decorate for Christmas! Specifically, we don’t put up a Christmas tree.

When we did this previously, many’s the time we’d awaken during the night to the “tinkling” of bells.

No, it wasn’t caused by a draft, but it was Muffy who would take it upon herself to “decorate our tree”, with herself, and she’d do it with her in it!
