Today, I’m posting a portion of an article I found at EzineArticles by Liz Allan

Because the article is a bit long for my purposes here, I’m dividing it into two parts; the second part (or Tips 6 through 10) will be published tomorrow.

Liz begins,

“Cat care involves keeping Kitty safe and accident-free. At Christmas, christmas-cat-us.0there are a number of extra dangers for your cat that are worth thinking about beforehand.

This article goes through ten common Christmas cat hazards and describes how to avoid seasonal cat accidents and mishaps.

1. The Christmas tree. Cats, especially younger ones, seem to think the Christmas tree is a multi-gym put up for the sole purpose of their amusement.

If your cat keeps leaping all over your tree, it’s a good idea to make sure it’s either tethered to the wall or standing in a heavy, solid container. If not, it could come crashing down on top of the dog, kids, you, new TV etc. etc…

2. Christmas decorations. Another favorite pastime for cats is to bat decorations off the tree and round the house. It’s better to have non-breakable decorations – if Kitty does break any they could cut his paws and / or someone’s feet.

3. Tinsel. Cats can get tangled up in tinsel, and may also eat it! If your cat is fond of tinsel, make sure it’s out of reach.

4. Christmas lights. Cats may be attracted to these when they’re on, and could get tangled in the wires. Either hang them out of Kitty’s reach or only switch them on when he’s supervised.

5. Candles. Never leave your cat in a room unsupervised with lit candles.”

Come back tomorrow about this time to read the rest of Liz’s tips, 6 through 10.
