No, this is not a repeat, we really are celebrating another Gotcha Day!
This time, it’s Flynn’s day!
In fact, exactly today (date-wise, January 7- 2015) I picked up Flynn at the local Humane Society (of North Iowa).
This little guy’s story, as you may remember, is as follows: I saw his photo on the Humane Society’s website, then hemmed and hawed for a week or so as to whether I wanted to get another kitty (to add to my already four-sized shelter kitties furmily).
Since I’m talking about him, you know his handsomeness won out and me over. Even if he was already a full-grown kitty – while he was a stray, they estimated his birth date was 9/2011! He’d been at the Shelter for four months before I found and subsequently adopted him.
Love him to pieces, and as I write this he’s sacked out beside me, like kitties often do, with his tummy in full view.
The full “kitty in review” is here at Kittens ‘n Things.

Today marks “two years” for Christopher, too. As December 26, 2014, saw me again in the car, this time driving to the Rescue Shelter to get Christopher.
And what a trip that turned out to be. I knew the general area where I was to go, or so I thought. (I had used Google to figure out my own map! Big mistake.)
Thankfully, the foster home cat mom was patient with me each time I called her to get me unlost! Making matters worse (in my mind) was the fact that she had told me during one of our calls she was supposed to be at a family dinner at the time she was waiting for me. (I had left home early enough but then “lost my way”.) (more…)
It’s been two years today now since I drove 2.5 hours in a bit of foggy, rainy inclement weather to get Phillip.
And then spent another hour or so at the Animal Shelter waiting to see him and then to get him processed so he could leave with me on his way to his furever home.
He “cried a lot” on the way back home.
Phillip had lived all of his six years in a home with two children who had grown to teenagers, and their mother. The mother was no longer able to care for him (she was not well) so she had put him up for adoption at the Shelter.
I like to think we’ve been a “match made in heaven”, but I know that’s not quite true. We have had some get used to each other issues.
A lot of those have been associated with the blending with the four brothers and one sister, Shelter kitties as well, I also managed to bring home over the last two years.
Phillip does like to sleep in bed with me at night. He also loves to sleep on my lap and legs when I’m on the couch. So we’ve got some serious bonding going on.
Yours in lovin’ kitty adoptions,
P.S. Christopher’s two-year Gotcha Day is fast coming up, too – the 26th!
After having to “hang my head in shame” earlier this week, as I realized I had forgotten to publicly (here at Kittens ‘ Things) acknowledge the “Gotcha Days” of Hope and Brody (June 10), I am striving to “turn over a new ‘memory’ leaf”. (Fingers crossed!)
That said, today is Phillip’s “really” birthday. He was born August 8, 2008! (His Gotcha Day is in December.)
So, Phillip, firrst kitty of mine in the new crew, Happy 8th Birthday!
Yours in remembering kitty birthdays and Gotcha Days,
P.S. I did finally manage to post about Hope and Brody’s Gotcha Day here yesterday.
Saturday, May 7, marked five years (already?) since our “baby Bowie” took off for the Rainbow Bridge. How I miss him.
He sure loved to have his back rubbed, and would stand or sit on the floor beside me for hours, if need-be, looking at me until I would get the hint that it was time for me to rub his back!
At which time he would jump up onto my lap, turn so his back faced me, sit down and wait for me to stroke away. At other times, he would just stand on my lap and enjoy the strokes. (Flynn has gotten so he likes head and back rubs, too.)

Earlier this morning, I heard on the radio that today is “Hug Your Cat” Day!
If you’re like me, you really don’t need a “day” to love on your kitty.
Nevertheless, I’m glad to share that bit of information with you – just in case you hadn’t heard it.
So this message is short as I have all these kitties I have to hug. And if you’re like me, you can’t just give one hug.

This week, the Kits found out that as recent as March 9, Grumpy Cat had introduced Friskies NEW flavor combinations called Cat Concoctions!
It’s a wet cat food that features flavors that “challenge the mind and flavor buds” of any discerning kitty.
Further, according to the Friskies press release, “The mashup of unexpected flavors includes: Chicken in Creamy Crabby Sauce; Cod in Cheesy Bacon Flavored Sauce; Lamb in Clam Flavored Sauce and Scrumptious Salmon & Chicken Liver Dinner Pate!” Num! Num!
Helping to bring the unexpected Flavor Mashups to life and to the purrblic at a three-day event, March 11-13, Platinum selling recording artist Ryan Cabrera and “American Idol” Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis, and pop culture phenomenon Grumpy Cat kicked off the party with a completely unexpected musical mashup performance Friday, March 11 in Austin, Texas.
They then held a meet-and-greet with our favorite Grumpy Cat! And we’ve got video of the performances to boot. As soon as we figure out how to get it to you from here, I’ll let you know!
Yours in rockin’ out with Grumpy Cat,
P.S. Let us know your favorite Cat Concoctions!!
Besides Flynn giving me a run for my money with his leaps to the TV, the DirecTV receiver, the dining room table, et al, I’ve discovered another activity he likes to use to get my attention.
Kleenex! He likes to play in (more like tear up) a box of Kleenex.
When I arrived home Tuesday morning after having been out for a while, I found “someone” had been in the Kleenex. (It had to have been Flynn as I’ve caught him digging in the Kleenex box on other occasions.)
The photo, top right, is the partially full Kleenex box on the floor with a pile of torn up Kleenex in front of the box.
In this photo < <<, the shot is the same pile of Kleenex, but looking down at the table where the Kleenex box was originally. And the rest landed on the floor.
I arrived home Wednesday to the same Kleenex in tatters scenario. I thought sure since I had covered up the box he would not be able to get into it. Wrong!
It seems to me that more and more Flynn’s true colors are showing! Or maybe he’s more comfortable with being himself! and so feels free to act accordingly.
Flynn and the others have plenty of toys to play with. They have the cat tree, and I make sure they have food in their tummies and water to drink or to play in!
In addition, they (almost) have the run of the house (I keep the door to the spare bedroom closed as I still need to sort through things in there), and they can go outside on to the front porch when the weather is nice.
In other words, he doesn’t want for anything that I can tell, so he doesn’t need to tear up Jack in the form of the Kleenex.
Although perhaps I ought to set aside specific play time with him and the others where each individually gets my attention throughout the day.
Yours in deciphering kitty’s actions,
What do you think?
