You Can Lead A Horse to Water…

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

And, in case you don’t know or can’t remember, the rest of that cat-drinking-water-faucet-sm saying is “but you can’t make them drink”!

Thus enter your precious feline.

Sometimes, as you know, it can be difficult to get your kitty to drink. Maybe she’s under the weather. Perhaps she’s finicky because the water is too stale or not cold enough.

Whatever the reason might be, you may never know. But it’s still crucial that you keep plenty of fresh water on hand at all times for your cat to help to keep her hydrated!

Especially if she or he has been unwell. As with you, who may not want to drink anything when you’re ill, so too your kitty might shy away from the water dish at such times.

If this happens at your house, it’s important for you to try to come up with different ways that might work to get water into your cat. (more…)

Paying Attention

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

If you’re like other cat owners, you pretty much cat tell when your kitty is GE DIGITAL CAMERA “under the weather” or “feeling out of sorts”.

Perhaps he’s not eating or drinking; maybe he’s just lying around in a mope.

Unexpected weight loss or weight gain are other signs that something may be amiss with your kitty.

But if you’re like most cat owners, too, some of the “tell tale” signs that something is amiss with your kitty may go unnoticed because you see your cat every day and thus you aren’t quite in tune with any such differences.

Particularly, since changes in weight and activity can, in some cases, be pretty subtle. And unless you keep a paper trail of his or her activity and weight it may be easy to miss the signs. (more…)

Turning in My “Mom Card”

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Friday night into Saturday morning, our temperature dipped to 8 degrees F.

The wind had blown all night and had blown out our yard light (its light source is natural gas). So there was no outside light when I went onto the front porch to get the morning newspaper (I could have turned on the porch light but I did not.)

Although a bit unusual, none of “The Boys” wandered downstairs to eat breakfast; they were “sleeping in”, I figured. Since I had some errands to run Saturday morning I went about getting ready and when I was ready, I left.

About four hours later, I returned home. By this time, Billy and Jonny had “surfaced” and were sleeping in plain sight. Mikey was nowhere to be seen. This was somewhat unusual because he’s not shy about making it his job to be in everybody’s business–loud and in charge.

Since the wind had blown out the yard light, I opened the front door to go get the gas light holder for the wicks for the yard light so I could replace them.

And there was Mikey; standing on the lounger looking at me! (more…)

Snubbing the Food

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

On any given day with any one of “The Boys”, I can attest that one or the other is on occasion (and maybe more than one occasion) a picky eater. I just look at the stack of empty cans of food I’ve gone through in an effort to find something that appeals to at least a majority of the three.

Perhaps you’ve experienced this “phenomenon” as well.

Short of running to the cat food store every hour each day, there are some other things you might want to consider if you cat is showing signs of refusing to eat because he’s bored. (more…)

He’s Baaaack!

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Mikey is finally getting back to his “usual self”.

And, although we took it, I didn’t need a trip to the Vet to tell me Mikey was back to snuff; he’s been “all over the place” with activity and mouthiness. A sure sign things are back to “his normal”. Thankfully.

He really is feeling much better; I can especially tell because of the way he now takes his naps.

Before, he would stretch out on his side on the floor, or he would lean his head up against the vacuum cleaner (or something else), like he was using it to hold up his head.

During his “ill time”, he would love it if I would talk to him and rub his tummy.

But he would not show any interest in food. Even his special nummies.

I just feel so bad that he was feeling bad.

P.S. Maybe, just maybe, Mikey will be ready to start playing again. In the meantime, he can continue to watch kitty videos like the “Kitty Goes Hunting and Kitty Goes Fishing” DVDs at Amazon to keep his mind occupied.

How Does Your Kitty Tip the Scale?

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Go ahead, you know you wanna! (Snuggle up to that little big tummy there!) >>>

While the “kitty tummy” often holds a great fascination for even the most disinterested cat owner, it’s existence can at times be cause for concern if you’re sometimes remiss and neglect to regularly monitor your cat’s body weight.

This is particularly true when you have a cat that’s a bit “long in the tooth”! (more…)

Indoor or Outdoor – That is the Question

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Most likely by the time you get around to getting a cat, you already know whether she’s going to be an indoor, an outdoor–or both! feline.

In our “furmily”, we went for an “indoor” brood. Although, in our first furmily, Jonny Cat I, was an “indoor-outdoor” cat. In fact, his need to be outside is how I got him.

Muffy and I were living in Tucson, AZ, at the time. I decided Muffy needed a companion so I began reading the ads in the weekly shopper. A woman advertised that she had a long hair cat, for free. I contacted her right away, went to see the kitty and was able to immediately become his new mom!

The lady had found him wandering her neighborhood and had taken him home. Unfortunately, she was not able to keep him as she already had a couple of other animals and some kids and the “blending” thing wasn’t happening like she wanted. (more…)

Has Your Kitty Had Her Shots?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

I got one of those post cards from the vet a while back, reminding me that all “The Boys” are “due” for their shots.

Now, after reading around the cat blogosphere about recent incidents when kitties have had their shots, I am a bit apprehensive about following through with them.

For the most part, “The Boys” do not go outside! On their own. Although there is always the chance they could get out. Most likely, though, the closest they’ll get to outside is to stand at the open door.

And look!

“Meow”, the 100–Minus 60–Pound Cat!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Have you seen the story about the “40 pound” cat at the animal shelter in New Mexico that weighs near 40 pounds?

It’s been all over the news (TV and newspaper) in recent days.

Apparently his elderly owner was no longer able to continue to care for him.

“Meow” is currently in a foster home, and the plan is to get him to lose at least 10 pounds and so he can eventually be put up for adoption.
