The Cat Tree

Wednesday, January 27th, 2016

2016-01-19-CB-rumbleFor some time now, I’ve been thinking about getting a new cat tree for The Boys and Hope. In fact, I’d looked at them at PetCo and at Amazon.

I’d read the reviews and even tried lifting the trees at PetCo. (We retired two old lopsided trees years ago for lopsidedness and unstableness.)

Many of the online reviews discussed difficulty with putting together the cat tree; the directions were less than enlightening, some reviewers expressed dismay at having to take the tree apart and re-assemble it because the instructions that came with were almost non-existent.

Additionally, some reviews alleged that the assembled tree was not too stable on carpeting. While others mentioned trees that were less than desirable for large kitties. (I was especially concerned about my 15.2 pound Phillip being able to even get up onto it.) (more…)

Good News!!!! Friskies Pull ‘n Play Treat/Toy

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

pullnplayLast week, I mentioned in Mews Nooz our weekly ezine and then again here at Kittens ‘n Things, about the new Friskies Pull ‘n Play Wobbly toy/treat

As a result of my “announcements, I’ve been asked where to find the Wobbly “first-ever edible strings” toy and treat to purchase. It was supposed to be in retail stores nationally starting mid-June.

However, some were unsuccessful in locating it; it was not at PetSmart or Petco. Although it is available now at Amazon (according to the Amazon website).

After hearing “new word” from Christine, my Friskies contact, that indicated it is in retail stores now like WalMart and Target, I checked our local Target yesterday/Wednesday; they don’t have it yet. I did not go to WalMart.

This morning, though, when I was in Hy-Vee I saw they “sort of” have it for sale – meaning there is a spot on the shelf for it; they were just sold out of the Wobbly toy. They did have the edible strings that can be purchased separately. I did not buy those yet as I want to get the toy, too.

So if you have a Hy-Vee, check there. And, of course, check your WalMart, Target, Petco, PetSmart – all the others like that. If they’re not there the first time you check, go back. I know sometimes here it takes a little longer for some things to hit shelves than it does in other parts of the country.

Two Months

Friday, February 20th, 2015

GE DIGITAL CAMERAToday marks two months since Phillip joined our furmily.

Earlier this week, he and Christopher were engaging in some really serious “acting out” behavior.

Fortunately, no lives or limbs were lost, although Phillip did come up short some of his furs!

Often there are tufts of fur on the carpet in the living room or bedroom. Most likely an indication Phillip and Christopher were showing their mettle!

It also didn’t take long for Phillip to learn how to get me to do his bidding!

Yours in your kitties mellowing out,

and “The Boys”

P.S. To pass the long winter days, Phillip and Christopher both sometimes like to chase around the house with the SkitterCritter catnip mouse toy. Maybe you can pacify your kitty with one, too.

Cats deign to Design

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Right around Christmas, I received an email from Sneha at Terry’s Fabrics. She shared an infographic that she had made which looks at “What would happen if you let a cat design your home”.

While “The Boys” are least likely to do any fancy designs like these, we’re thinking they may like the opportunity to at least give it a try.

They make their own fun

cats-playing-tree-smallWhen you look at your “tuckered little fur ball” stretched out on your lap, it’s hard to imagine that sweet little thing could have been the cause of the ruckus you heard and recently broke up just ten minutes ago.

Let’s see, “your guy” and at least one of his brothers, managed to do all or some of the following in 10 minutes flat:

1. Play tag
You’re on the first floor, sitting in the living room; you’re hearing a “thump, thump” then see a “shot of white fur” streak past you. Then, another fur ball! Round the table leg they go, bumping into each other; the thumping continues up the stairs and into the bedroom overhead!

2. Jump off furniture
Not long after that commotion, you’re sitting on the couch, reading the newspaper and one of your cats takes a flying leap from the floor to the back of the couch. But he doesn’t stop there; he then proceeds to jump from the back of the couch perch to the middle of the newspaper you’re holding in front of you. Then innocently looks up at you, as in “look at me; pay attention to me.”

3. Chase his tail
Sometimes the tag and the jump from the couch are too much activity for one cat to take in…or he feels excluded by the others. So he makes his own fun and chases his tail. Round and round he goes, although that doesn’t last long, and he’s soon bored. Then he just sits and stares. Maybe he’s dizzy! (more…)

Voting for Friskies Video Contest

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

Friskies-2013-video-award-smA week or so ago, I posted that I had heard from Christine Schena, the rep for Friskies. She wanted us to know voting for the “Best Cat Video of 2013″ contest is in full swing!

“Friskies and the contest judges selected 20 Semi-Finalists to compete for a spot as one of 12 Finalists.”

You can vote through September 16, 2013, so get your voting paw or fingers ready, your favorite treats (cat munchies or pop corn), find a soft spot to relax and watch those videos. Then choose your favorites!

$25,000 is on the line here! “Four Category winners and one Fan Favorite winner will be awarded the money. AND a gold-plated Catuette trophy.”

So let’s help to make it happen!

and “The Boys”

P.S. We’re pretty certain you’re going to be pretty busy watching those videos from now until September 16. However, we also think you might want a “7th-inning stretch” to get the kinks out! So, here’s a bit of fun where you can direct your attention–it’s the FroliCat DART Laser Pet Toy
