Morris the Cat wraps up …

Thursday, February 4th, 2016

Welcome to the final edition of Morris the Cat’s advice column, revealing need-to-know information on how to release your inner cat and get the best night’s sleep of your life.

If you’ve been following along these past few days, you know Morris has purrticipated in an “ask Morris” purrathon in which he shared his ideas about sleeping like a kitty!

As an iconic spokescat and star of over 50 9Lives cat food commercials from the 1970s onward, Morris has a prolific career envied by many of the Internet cat sensations of today. The secret to his longevity? Well, for one, the fact that he eats 9Lives. But more importantly, he has a disciplined sleep regimen – racking up about 140 hours per week!

Morris wants to teach YOU the tricks of the trade and give you all the tools you need, so he’s hosting a giveaway on his Live Well & Prospurr site to win a Morris-shaped plush bed that’s big enough for you AND your cat to snuggle up on.

Dear Morris,

My cat and I are BFFs. We do everything together – play, eat, snuggle – we make a purrfect team. But in the bedroom, I prefer to have my space. My cat, on the other hand, thinks there’s no better place to sleep than right on my head! Why does she do this? I’m not all that fun when I’m sleeping.

Warmly,

Tired Tails

2015-12-25-28-christopher-toyIn case you missed this week’s issue of Mews Nooz, we’re sharing Christopher’s story about how much he liked the gifts from Morris the cat!

It all came about because Morris the Cat and Friskies launched a new website, Live Well & Prospurr, and a 9Lives promotion in November to help cats and humans. Morris was also “pawing it forward” by donating meals to cats at the ASPCA. We/the Kids were asked to participate. So we said “yes!”

As a result, Morris provided us with a blog post that we could post at our blog, Kittens n Things, and in an earlier Mews Nooz edition.

Further, in return, Morris and Friskies gave to us free stuff for our “Morris mention”. A huge box arrived for The Boys and Hope about mid-December; we saved it to open Christmas day. You should have seen the “kids”.

The box contained a 12-can case assortment of 5.5-oz 9Lives Cat food – pate! A box of 6 small kitty toys including three mice; in addition, a toy wand with a feather, and a yarn ball. I removed three mice toys so they could immediately play with them, and “someone kitty” removed the ball when I wasn’t looking!

We also received a pet groomer brush; it’s in the shape of a horseshoe. It fastens onto an oval carpet stand. You put catnip in a hole in the bottom of the stand to attract the kitties. When they walk through the brush arch, they are able to scratch their backs and it removes loose cat hair.

Christopher ^^^ immediately grabbed on to one of the mice (they have feather tails and are catnip-stuffed, too). As he played with it on the floor he got a crazy catnip stupor look on his face, as he stared off into space.

What a great Christmas! I had gotten them some toy mice, too; after seeing what was in the box, though, I decided to save those for later.

And then, of course, they had two new big (shipping) boxes they could play in.

Yours in lovin’ opening gifts,

, “The Boys”, and Hope

P.S. The Pet Groomer Arch brush is available at Amazon through this affiliate link.)

Photo of Christopher taken Christmas day; he’s a bit of a reddish gold color and somewhat blends into the carpet. It’s difficult to tell where the mouse is in his arms, but it’s there!

Good News!!!! Friskies Pull ‘n Play Treat/Toy

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

pullnplayLast week, I mentioned in Mews Nooz our weekly ezine and then again here at Kittens ‘n Things, about the new Friskies Pull ‘n Play Wobbly toy/treat

As a result of my “announcements, I’ve been asked where to find the Wobbly “first-ever edible strings” toy and treat to purchase. It was supposed to be in retail stores nationally starting mid-June.

However, some were unsuccessful in locating it; it was not at PetSmart or Petco. Although it is available now at Amazon (according to the Amazon website).

After hearing “new word” from Christine, my Friskies contact, that indicated it is in retail stores now like WalMart and Target, I checked our local Target yesterday/Wednesday; they don’t have it yet. I did not go to WalMart.

This morning, though, when I was in Hy-Vee I saw they “sort of” have it for sale – meaning there is a spot on the shelf for it; they were just sold out of the Wobbly toy. They did have the edible strings that can be purchased separately. I did not buy those yet as I want to get the toy, too.

So if you have a Hy-Vee, check there. And, of course, check your WalMart, Target, Petco, PetSmart – all the others like that. If they’re not there the first time you check, go back. I know sometimes here it takes a little longer for some things to hit shelves than it does in other parts of the country.

Friskies Pull ‘n Play Cat Toy and Treat

Saturday, June 20th, 2015

pullnplayWe’re excited about the brand new Friskies Pull ‘n Play Toy and Treat.

I recently received an email from Christine Amoscato, Assistant Account Executive for Taylor Strategy, on behalf of Friskies. (She’s been in contact with me off and on for the last couple of years about various promotions by Friskies.)

This time, her news is that “Friskies is launching a “first-ever edible strings” toy with an Interactive Adoption Event!

Friskies has teamed with pro football punter Steve Weatherford and celebrity cat Waffles to bring a one of a kind cat adoption experience to New York City at the “Friskies Playhouse” on Friday, June 26.

Ms. Amoscato stated: “The Pull ‘n Play Pack takes cat treating to a whole new level! It combines “the first-ever” tender edible strings with a wobbly cat toy that also dispenses Friskies treats! That means playtime is more delicious! Try all 3 delicious string flavors. And get ready to let the good times wobble!”

“Consumers can also participate in the Most Playful Cat in America sweepstakes from June 15 to August 10 for a chance to win a cash prize of $1,500, a Wobbert toy and a one year supply of the new Friskies Pull ‘n Play product.”

(The sweepstakes is online so even if you’re not in New York City, you can participate in this.)

While we don’t live anywhere near NYC, perhaps some of you do, and can make it to this June 26 event with Steve Weatherford. If you go, let us know!

Cats deign to Design

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Right around Christmas, I received an email from Sneha at Terry’s Fabrics. She shared an infographic that she had made which looks at “What would happen if you let a cat design your home”.

While “The Boys” are least likely to do any fancy designs like these, we’re thinking they may like the opportunity to at least give it a try.

How to survive Halloween night with a kitty in tow

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

halloween-kittyToday’s thoughts on How to survive Halloween night with a kitty in tow come on the heels of two recent posts, Halloween Can Give You Such a Fright and Halloween Fright Night.

So take a look at this:

Kitty got the biteys? While Halloween can be a fun time for you and your kids, it may be a traumatic time for your otherwise docile kitty.

In fact, loud noises and lights and people dressed in strange garb that you can’t tell who they are (strangers, even) could cause your kitty to quickly get and to be out of sorts. Which, in turn, might lead to the claws and teeth coming out.

We’ve got still another tip for safely sharing Halloween with your kitty. Come back tomorrow and take a look.

Halloween can give you such a fright!

Saturday, October 25th, 2014

halloween-kittyFor a while now, around here the newspapers have been full of ads for Halloween costumes and candies, and in some instances news about Trick or Treat activities for little ones and big ones – furry and otherwise!

However, I haven’t seen much information about what to do with or how to treat pets; kitties in particular. So, I looked for and found some tips that might interest you as well in your planning for Trick or Treat and Halloween.

Keep a lid on anything chocolate. In other words, since some human chocolate morsels, while quite tasty, can be hazardous to a kitty’s health (toxic), you’ll want to not feed any to your furry beggar.

Also, take care with where you leave the candy bowl or leftover chocolate, as they could be lethal to your furry friend.

Stop by soon to catch the other four Halloween tips we’re sharing.

Does your cat need the vet? Tip

Sunday, October 6th, 2013

cat-pill2If you’re a regular reader of Mews Nooz, you know that in the October 5 issue and again in yesterday’s blog post, I started a series of “mini-tips” (to be published here over five days) with “food for thought” to help you decide whether to call the vet for your kitty.

Today, here are a couple of tips about “the gums” and “mopey cat”.

Color of your gums

Sometimes when you feel blue or have lost energy, you dig out the mirror, lift up your upper lip or pull down your lower eyelid to study the membranes. Oftentimes, a pale pink signifies that you ought to be concerned with your state of health and contact your doctor. Likewise, the color of your kitty’s gums, whether it’s pale, white, blue or yellow warrants a call to your vet. (more…)

Tidy Cats LightWeight Cat Litter

Saturday, September 21st, 2013

tidy-cats-LW-sm “The Boys,” our “Cat Seen Investigators” (CSI), like nosing around the Internet for really cool toys, new kitty litter, and any other stuff that might interest all their kitty furriends. This week, they and I, are really excited about the new Tidy Cats LightWeight Cat Litter.

Several weeks ago, Molly Owen, Senior Account Executive for Cone Communications, and marketing rep for Purina Tidy Cats, contacted me about Tidy Cats’ new product that would be in the stores this fall. She wondered if we’d be interested in receiving a sample to use and then to write about.

Oh boy, would we!

I’ve used Purina Tidy Cats litter in various iterations for years–even as far back as the 1970s; the regular kind, the clumpable, etc. Over the years, I’ve noticed numerous minor changes in the product–there was a while there where the “gravel” was more of a small pea size and I didn’t think it clumped as well as it had been.
