Morris the Cat wraps up …

Thursday, February 4th, 2016

Welcome to the final edition of Morris the Cat’s advice column, revealing need-to-know information on how to release your inner cat and get the best night’s sleep of your life.

If you’ve been following along these past few days, you know Morris has purrticipated in an “ask Morris” purrathon in which he shared his ideas about sleeping like a kitty!

As an iconic spokescat and star of over 50 9Lives cat food commercials from the 1970s onward, Morris has a prolific career envied by many of the Internet cat sensations of today. The secret to his longevity? Well, for one, the fact that he eats 9Lives. But more importantly, he has a disciplined sleep regimen – racking up about 140 hours per week!

Morris wants to teach YOU the tricks of the trade and give you all the tools you need, so he’s hosting a giveaway on his Live Well & Prospurr site to win a Morris-shaped plush bed that’s big enough for you AND your cat to snuggle up on.

Dear Morris,

My cat and I are BFFs. We do everything together – play, eat, snuggle – we make a purrfect team. But in the bedroom, I prefer to have my space. My cat, on the other hand, thinks there’s no better place to sleep than right on my head! Why does she do this? I’m not all that fun when I’m sleeping.

Warmly,

Tired Tails

“Dear Morris” again

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

Hey readers, I’m back with iconic 9Lives cat food spokescat Morris, giving advice to us lowly humans about how to sleep like a pro, and by that I mean, a cat. After all, they do sleep up to 140 hours a week – that’s 3.5 times your typical 9-5. If you’ve missed his other shades of advice you can catch his doodles here and here

To help on your quest to catch more Zzzs, Morris is also giving my readers the chance to win a super-cool, human-sized bed in the shape of Morris himself… because who doesn’t sleep better when snuggling up with a cat? Just go to his Live Well & Prospurr website to enter and to check out his video with more sleeping tips.

So here is the next Dear Morris installment …

morris-on-computer

Dear Morris,

I’m a cat but as you know, even animals have ‘spirit animals.’ Mine is an owl – a night owl to be exact. I love to play “catch the speck of dust” or “chase your tail in the middle of the bed” into the wee hours of the morning. My humans have no idea what they’re missing out on.

They just lay there snoring, and swat at me when I come too close. How can I make them see that daytime is lame, and the real party happens under stars (the stick-on, glow-in-the-dark kind)?

Yours truly,
Hyper Harry

Morris the Cat says S-L-E-E-P Like a Cat

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

If you stopped by yesterday, you know all this week we are sharing Morris the Cat’s insight when it comes to sleeping like a cat He’s our guest blogger and is responding to the sleep deprived Dear Morris style.)

morris-last-hope-man-sleeping-sleepless-sanfran

Dear Morris,

I’ve been experiencing difficulties with falling asleep, tossing and turning once my head hits the pillow. I don’t get it because I feel tired all day at work; then I come home, brush my teeth, flip on the TV, and just… lie there. I’m hoping I can learn from the expert. Morris, what am I doing wrong?

Sincerely,
Sleepless in San Fur-nando

who-needs-tv-cat-entertain-sleep
Dear Sleepless in San Fur-nando,

Your case, unfortunately, is not at all uncommon. When you’re going all day long at the speed of a cheetah, it’s no wonder your mind darts around like a red laser dot at bedtime. Luckily, as a cat, I spend up to 140 hours per week sleeping and I can tell you there is hope!

For starters, I notice you mentioned turning on the TV before bed. Cats don’t watch TV – this is partly because the majority of us can’t speak English that well, but mostly because it interferes with our snooze time.

Scientifically speaking, the ‘glow’ emitted by an electronic screen enters the brain and slows the release of melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep. So next time you want to turn on the tube before bed, try counting sheep instead – or better yet, mice!

Kitty hugs,
Morris

Yours in enjoying insight from Morris,

and “The Boys”

P.S. There you have it! After getting a good night’s rest, tune back in tomorrow for the next edition of “Dear Morris”, and don’t forget to check out his Live Well & Prospurr website to enter the giveaway and learn how you can help Morris feed hungry kitties with just the click of a mouse.

P.P.S. Morris the Cat’s publicity reps contacted us about sharing Morris’s new promotion at his Live Well & Prospurr site and his “Sleep Like a Kitty” contest. As a result, they are sending to us a “Happy Kitty Kit” for “The Boys” and Hope.

“New Year’s Resolutions” Out of the Mouths of Cats

Saturday, January 9th, 2016

resolution-cat-large Nothing says lovin’ from a kitty like yours telling you how you can best get your please on for her.

However, I saw an article Pet Place, written by their Staff, that comes pretty close in a cat telling it like it is in New Year’s Resolutions form.

I’m sharing three of the Resolutions here, and four in this week’s issue of Mews News. You can catch the entire article at Pet Place.

1. Stretch More! Call me overly critical, but your stretching routine is inadequate. Without proper stretching, you won’t be able to spring into action should a hunting opportunity present itself.

You can observe me if you need tips for how to successfully elongate your body or extend your paws into the air. Even if you aren’t the hunting type, better flexibility increases blood flow to muscles and reduces the risk of injury.

2. Try Something New. One time I doubted I could complete a long leap, then I tried it and surprised myself. Now I jump from the floor to the kitchen counter with relative ease all the time. …

3. Wake Up Early. Weekends are precious. When Saturday and Sunday roll around, you should wake up early and maximize your time. Make the most of your day…just make sure you feed me first.

But don’t worry – I won’t let you forget. In fact, I’ll probably help you wake up as the sun rises, ensuring you get a nice and early start to your days.

Yours in sharing New Year’s Resolutions,

,“The Boys”, and Hope

The above article, written by the Staff @ Pet Place was published there December 23, 2015. (They note that the article can be shared). Since it’s especially fitting for this time of year with so many of us making or considering New Year’s Resolutions, here are three of the Resolutions. Read the article in its entirety at Pet Place.

Dressing Up Your Kitty at Halloween

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

grumpy-cat-halloween-smIf you’ve been in the area of Kittens n Things over the last week, you know I’ve been posting tips on how to share Halloween with your favorite furball.

This then is the last Halloween tip for this year.

Dress up. The current company of “The Boys” can thankfully say they have never been subjected to our whims of dressing up the kitty.

Jonny I, though, was not so fortunate. Although his dress up foray had nothing to do with Halloween. We got him a sweater, as after a haircut we thought he might need a little help keeping warm. That lasted about as long as it took us to put the garment on him.

Of course, many love to decorate their kitties at Halloween with costumes of various sorts. If you do, it’s a good idea to make sure the costume fits so he or she is not tripping over it, that it doesn’t slide off or something worse that could cause a hazard of sorts for your kitty.

Yours in all about Halloween with a kitty,

and “The Boys”

P.S. Here’s a neat Halloween dress-up idea for your kitty; what a snazzy, fun outfit.

Halloween Fright Night

Monday, October 27th, 2014

halloween-kittyThe other day I started a post with tips on how to help your kitty have a fun Halloween night; it included ideas on how you might have a bit of piece of mind because of it.

However, the tips list became a bit longer than I wanted for one post so I divided the points into four different ideas. Here then is the second tip.

In or out. We’ve been fortunate (for us) enough that all of The Boys (and those that came before them) have for the most part (with an exception or two) been indoor cats.

But if you have a kitty that gets the wanderlust and has to be outside on any given occasion, Halloween is a time when you might want to curb his enthusiasm (even briefly) for the great outdoors as there may be more cars on the road at Halloween.

Additionally, black kitties may find it a bit more difficult to manage outside; they are more prone to animal cruelty during Halloween festivities.

Come by tomorrow to get another tip for sharing Halloween with a kitty.

Halloween can give you such a fright!

Saturday, October 25th, 2014

halloween-kittyFor a while now, around here the newspapers have been full of ads for Halloween costumes and candies, and in some instances news about Trick or Treat activities for little ones and big ones – furry and otherwise!

However, I haven’t seen much information about what to do with or how to treat pets; kitties in particular. So, I looked for and found some tips that might interest you as well in your planning for Trick or Treat and Halloween.

Keep a lid on anything chocolate. In other words, since some human chocolate morsels, while quite tasty, can be hazardous to a kitty’s health (toxic), you’ll want to not feed any to your furry beggar.

Also, take care with where you leave the candy bowl or leftover chocolate, as they could be lethal to your furry friend.

Stop by soon to catch the other four Halloween tips we’re sharing.

No room in the inn …

Thursday, August 7th, 2014

cat-in-suitcase-smMost likely, those are words you don’t want to hear when you’re traveling with a pet–whether it’s in the winter or in the summer.

So, one of your first considerations when planning your trip and making your room reservations is to be sure to ask if they are a “pet friendly” accommodations!

And be sure you have your room arrangements made BEFORE you get in the car with your kitty and go down the road.

All you need to do is plan where you’ll be staying each night and then make your room reservations along the way, accordingly. You might also ask about any Pet Policies they have that could impact your stay and that of your favorite four-legged furmily member.

Most likely you can come up with other tips when it comes to traveling with a cat that will help you have a fun, safe trip with your family and your fur family, as well.

Yours in taking trips with your kitty,

and “The Boys”

P.S. When you’re packing for your kitty, a Yeoww! Yellow Banana is a terrific pacifier.
