The Patter of Little Cat Feet

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Oh what a time at our house these last few days!

Reindeer hooves on the roof, and loud “ho, ho, ho” ing. And even the promise of new faces.

“The Boys” have decided they want a little brother…or sister.

Actually, Chuck and I did…then the boys got into the act. We’ve found a breeder nearby (like 40 minutes from us) who has some little ones that are available; some “now” and some “soon”. It’s all any of us can do to not call that telephone number.

In addition, the lady takes PayPal!

But knowing us, getting new kitties is much like eating potato chips…we cant stop at just one!

Especially when they look like that alfalpha <<<---- and daniel2 that —>>>. After all, one has to have someone to grow up with.

We’re also just not sure if we really want to deal with the patter of little feet again. And, somehow I’m not so sure “the Boys” will take to the new additions as much as they think they will.

The new additions will be fun for “the Boys” to wrestle and play with for a while, and then we, Chuck and I, will have to take care of the “wee” ones.

Oh, the bother!

Yours to getting new little feet,

Cats and Dreams and Christmas Ornaments

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I had a dream…no really–I had a dream…not like the “Field of Dreams” dream but a nighttime dream!

The dream really began, as sometimes most dreams do, before I went to bed; I had spent an hour or so reading a newsletter about some of the things to be watchful of when you have a cat or dog in the house at Christmas.

In our case, we have four cats.

There was a time when we would put up a Christmas tree; when we had nick knacks sitting

around on shelves, when plants graced our table or TV and when I had a whole bookshelf stand full of house plants.

Alas, no more!

Some people apparently get along quite well with a combination of cats and “do dads;” we do not! And it’s just as well.

We learned early on that sometimes cats and Christmas ornaments do not mix. After pulling tinsel from a cat’s mouth on more than one occasion and waking during the night or another to the “tinkling of the bells” to discover a cat lodged firmly in the Christmas tree, luckily before it fell, we’ve chosen to forgo the usual such Christmas amenities.

At least for now!

Stop back tomorrow to find find out what happened in my dream and how it ended.

Seven Steps to a Pet-Safe Holiday!

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

There’s nothing better than a happy holiday! says Dr. Wendy Zimmerman, DVM, CVA, On-staff Veterinarian, PetFoodDirect.petfooddirect-vet

I saw Dr. Zimmerman’s Seven Steps to a Pet-Safe Holiday in PetFoodDirect’s December 12, 2009, edition of “Weekends are for Pets,” and thought of you.

Because the article is timely but a bit lengthy for one read here, I am dividing it into three sections. The first section is posted now, and the other two will be posted on two additional, consecutive days from today about this time.

Dr. Zimmerman continues…

“So, follow these easy tips in order to ensure this holiday season is safe and fun for all members of your household including your pets…

Avoid toxic foods. Keep in mind that foods that are tasty to us can zimmerman-schanuzercause a variety of problems for your pet.

The following foods should be kept away from your pets: Raisins, onions, grapes, some nuts, and especially chocolate can cause significant and serious illness in your pet if ingested.

Also keep all chicken and turkey bones away from your pet as these can sometimes be choking hazards. Do keep a variety of healthy and safe pet treats around for your furry family members.

Tape down electrical cords. Your pet may not appreciate the beauty of a well lit Christmas tree but they will almost certainly see the cords as a chew toy which could lead to choking or electrocution.

Tape electrical cords to the floor to ensure they are covered and secure in order prevent electrocution and injury to your pet. Taping and securing all electrical cords and Christmas trees will also help to prevent your pet, especially your cat, from knocking the tree over by accident.”

That’s all from Dr. Zimmerman for today. Come by tomorrow for the next three tips.

Yours in keeping your kitty safe at Holiday,

5 Steps to Stop Your Cat’s Excessive Meowing

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Today, I’m posting at an article that I found at EzineArticles by Brent McCoy.

Of course, our “Boys” are nothing like any of the examples in the article…except maybe Billy!

So now, here’s Brent:

“Have you ever pondered how to stop your cat’s excessive meowing? 10-commandment-cat-blogAre you sick of those sleepless nights holding you back? Fear not, because I am here to give you free advice to help you with this issue.

In this article we discuss the 5 steps to stop your cat’s excessive meowing.

1. One of the most common steps to stop your cat’s excessive meowing is to not respond directly to them – thus not giving them the attention they are desiring.

This alone will go a long way to helping you get past those sleepless nights.

2. Another of these steps is to keep your cat extra busy and play with it so it sleeps while you sleep, which can be a really good thing to be aware of.

A Cat Walk In the Park

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Last Saturday, I was at the pet store to pick up our weekly assortmentd of cat food and bits, when I heard what sounded like a “not too happy” sounding cat.

When I turned toward the “snarls,” I saw a couple standing inside the door cat-leash-smalllooking down at their gray tiger cat. She had planted her feet solidly on the floor, crouched down–rather lay down–and was not budging. Actually, she looked like she was holding onto the floor for dear life!

They had her on a leash!

Come to find out, “kitty” was not happy because she had come into the unfamiliar surroundings of the store and was reacting accordingly!

Actually, it’s more common than not for your cat to be acclimated to the inside of your home. However, you don’t have to keep him inside.

In fact, it’s good to let him see what is in the world outside.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Today’s “kitty news” will be short and sweet!

We hope you’re having a relaxing day and that your kitties are lounging just as much as you.

cat-highchair-small“The Boys” are hanging around really close to the kitchen because they can smell what’s in the oven.

Not only that, they’ve already got their “places” picked out for where they want to be when it’s time to eat.

Happy Thanksgiving from our house to yours.

Yours in eating turkey and all that other good stuff,

Chuck, Karen, Jonny, Mikey, Billy, Bowie and Daniel and Cody (post-humously!)
