Billy, Forever

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Today, on the second week anniversary (Friday, May 1) of saying good-bye to Billy as he went to the Rainbow Bridge, we received a very special email from Ann Adamus, Zoolatry.

This very talented and generous lady had just learned about Billy and had created the above ^^^ remembrance for us. (I’ll be adding it to the sidebar shortly >>>.)

We love it and we know Billy would, too. (As would Chuck and Billy’s brothers, who also went before!)

Yours in thanking kitties for their love and for the memories,

and “The Boys”

P.S. Thank you, also, to all of you who’ve stopped by with your “purrs”, and words of support.

And then there were none!

Billy-baby2This afternoon, once again, it was necessary to be with one of my beloved kitties (Billy) as he went to the Rainbow Bridge!

It almost came out of nowhere. I knew he hadn’t been feeling like himself off and on for about the last month but I kept putting off taking him to the Vet, in hopes his moping would work its way out.

Since yesterday/Thursday again seemed like an off day for him, I made an appointment for him at the Vet’s. (I had had him in two weeks ago for his rabies shot and a “quick once over“.) At yesterday’s visit, we learned that Billy had lost one pound! in two weeks.

GE DIGITAL CAMERABlood work did not show anything out of the ordinary but the Vet was concerned about Billy’s quick weight loss – and that much!

The Vet also discovered that Billy had a clogged salivary gland, although that would not necessarily cause him to lose weight like he had. He’d also had 30% kidney function for a year or so. (more…)

Life without Mikey

Saturday, December 6th, 2014

GE DIGITAL CAMERAJust like we had to change our ways after we lost Chuck and Jonny, so too must Billy and I make some adjustments in how we do things now that Mikey has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

For starters, I have to quit calling Billy, Mikey!

Mikey was so ill for such a long stretch there that his name was most often on my lips as we spent quite a bit of time cuddling and talking to each other as I cared for him.

Although not unexpected, Billy has taken up permanent residence on my lap! While he’s done that for years it seems like now he’s doing it even more, if that’s possible.

I can also now cut down on the number of plates that I put out with food. (It used to be each of our six kitties would get his own plate, although they would go from plate to plate when it was time to eat.) I can also reduce the amount of food that I make available to Billy. All this in turn changes the number of times it’s necessary to tend to the litter box!

Billy is back to sleeping in his house in the hallway outside of the bedroom. It’s beside Mikey’s bed! I had thought he might join me in bed at night but for now he’s sticking close to Mikey’s bed.

and “The Boys”

With a Little Help from Our Furriends …

Sunday, November 30th, 2014

Mikey, Forever and the humans, we’ll get along.

I was out of town Saturday for the day and returned to an Inbox FULL of an outpouring of love, support, purrs and hugs from all of you at the loss of our beloved Mikey.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by to offer your thoughts and your kindness.

Your words of encouragement are helping Billy and me to realize we made the right decision. It’s also reassuring to know that we are not alone in our loss, as clearly many of you walked this way as well at one time or another.

And please know that the CB, its readers and members, like you all, are totally special to us.

Thank you!

Yours in us taking in your outpouring of love,

and Billy

P.S. Ann Adamus of Zoolatry forwarded a beautiful avatar of Mikey Forever (above) that I’ll also post in the sidebar. I believe too that she was instrumental in posting the message at the CB. (If I’m mixed up on that, please someone let me know so I can give proper credit.)

Reach out

Thursday, February 13th, 2014

GE DIGITAL CAMERASo there I was sitting at my computer like I often do, with Billy on my lap.

These days, it seems to be his favorite-ist place in the whole wide world.

I love it with him there, too.

He’s on his side, sometimes he’s looking at me; most times he’s sleeping.

Then all of a sudden I feel a soft bit of fur touch my face or my chest. When I look down, there’s Billy’s paw reaching out to me.

I’m thinking it’s a “love tap”!

Yours in kitties that so openly share their love,

and “The Boys”

Focus, focus

Monday, January 20th, 2014

billy_mikey_onbox2Perhaps like some of you, I have occasions where I get a little scatter-brained or tend to be a bit loopy. At those times, Chuck used to encourage me to “focus, focus”.

And so I still try to remember this mantra when I’m going about my day doing various activities.

One such activity the other day had to do with Mikey and Billy as they ate breakfast. I had just returned from Curves and knew it was time to give Mikey his “ear drops”. (Actually, it’s a medicated cream for his hyperthyroidism that I put onto the inside of his ear.)

As Mikey ate, I decided it would be a perfect time to give him his medication as he would be distracted from what I was doing.

So I got the applicator ready and then bent down to put the cream on his ear. But he balked a bit; like he was saying, “leave me alone, I want to eat”. I’m glad he did, as when he looked up at me, I realized I was in the process of getting ready to put the medication into Billy’s ear!

Yours in paying attention to your kitty,

and “The Boys”

16, At Last!

Saturday, October 26th, 2013

balloons_tToday, finally, Billy hit the big 1-6!

His brothers, Jonny, and Mikey, each turned 16 on June 7 and July 1, respectively.

billyonbikePoor Billy, he was feeling a little bit left out–of all the birthday celebrations for the other two!

But I told him his “day” would be here before he knew it. And now it is! And the good news is “I remembered”.

I also remembered to get him/us a cake! (Bill’s on the bike, exercising, making room for his share of the cake!)

So we’re spending the day eating cake and The Boys will be doing a bit of snoozing, too.

Yours in happy birthdays,

and “The Boys”

P.S. Billy wanted me to let you know he has been really good this year, so he’s thinking he ought to get this Petmate Crazy Circle Interactive Cat Toy for his birthday–or at least for Christmas!

Cheaper by the dozen

Saturday, August 31st, 2013

two-kitty-love-sm Quite a few years ago, 16, to be exact, when Chuck and I were “adding to our furmily” (a couple kitties at a time), the lady we got them from asked us if we were “going for ‘cheaper by the dozen'”.

And by the time we ended up, we had 6!

Actually, we had some of the same thought processes that many “new pawrents” might–such as for us it’s a good idea to adopt two cats at the same time so they can keep each other company, especially if you work or are otherwise away from home for any length of time.

Now whether the lady had posed that to us or not, we would still have gotten more than one as they were the cutest little furballs and we loved them before we even met them–she had sent their photos to us.

However, in the veterinarian realm of things, Oscar E. Chavez, DVM, MBA, Member of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition, postulates, “The general answer would be no, don’t get two cats, unless they are young and of similar age, and/or were raised together.”

He further states, “It’s more likely to stress your cat out than provide a companion.” Says Dr. Chavez, “People assume cats do well in multiple cat households, but that’s far from the truth. Cats are not small dogs. They are not pack animals, and they prefer to be solitary most of the time.”

Tap, Tap, Tap

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

For those of you with “multiple” cats, what sort of sibling rivalry boys2 (if any) do you have going on at your house?

For the most part, ours is minimal, although it seems to get on Billy’s very last paw nerve when Mikey takes over my lap!

After all, my lap is Billy’s territory.

When Mikey gets to my lap before Billy, Billy will come to me, sit on the couch beside me and give me a dirty look. (As if to say, “How could I let some other kitty take over his spot!)

If I “ignore” Billy, he will lift up one of his front paws and tap me on the arm–gently at first–and then a bit forceful if I don’t pay attention to him.

Billy knows that sooner or later Mikey will move away or Billy will manage to scoot around enough to make room for himself on my lap alongside Mikey!

Eventually, though, Mikey will get tired of “sharing the lap”, and take off like a wild thing!

Yours in kitties make their special space,

and “The Boys”

P.S. If we use Da Bird Cat Catcher Cat Toy to distract Mikey away from my lap, Billy will be a very happy kitty!
