Friday, June 19th, 2015

We’re a little late getting started with this “International Box Day” thing; nevertheless, we’re joining in. With this photo of our late Mikey! (I’ve always loved it.)

And thanks to Ann at Zoolatry, we can also add this graphic

With a Little Help from Our Furriends …

Mikey, Forever and the humans, we’ll get along.

I was out of town Saturday for the day and returned to an Inbox FULL of an outpouring of love, support, purrs and hugs from all of you at the loss of our beloved Mikey.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by to offer your thoughts and your kindness.

Your words of encouragement are helping Billy and me to realize we made the right decision. It’s also reassuring to know that we are not alone in our loss, as clearly many of you walked this way as well at one time or another.

And please know that the CB, its readers and members, like you all, are totally special to us.

Thank you!

Yours in us taking in your outpouring of love,

and Billy

P.S. Ann Adamus of Zoolatry forwarded a beautiful avatar of Mikey Forever (above) that I’ll also post in the sidebar. I believe too that she was instrumental in posting the message at the CB. (If I’m mixed up on that, please someone let me know so I can give proper credit.)

Mikey’s with Chuck Now

Saturday, November 29th, 2014

GE DIGITAL CAMERAIt had been quite a while coming and although not specifically planned for Monday, November 24, 2014, I contacted the Vet.

It was during that contact that I decided it was time for us to say good-bye. Chuck is now taking care of him.

Sadly, Mikey had gotten to where more and more he was eating and drinking not so much, which resulted in little bodily output.

In addition, he had begun to get sick to his stomach, and wouldn’t take hairball remedy; something he used to love and would practically chase me down to get when I had the tube open.

Further, since his last visit to the vet two weeks ago he had lost half a pound and his heart murmur had gotten worse.

And then as you might suspect, after the fact, I’m still rethinking whether it would have been better to hold my horses a bit longer. Even though I knew that with all his health issues (including the dementia and partial loss of vision) there was really nothing else that could be done for him, other than maintaining him on the meds we had been using. Alas, even those were fast losing their effectiveness.

So now it’s just Billy and me. But we do have lots of fun memories though from when Chuck and I had a house full of six kitties under foot and sprawled all over, as well as running and playing, and with arms flailing about.

Yours in losin’ another love,

and “The Boys”

BP: 250/185

GE DIGITAL CAMERAThose numbers, dear readers and kitties, are Mikey’s blood pressure readings!!! I was shocked!

In case you missed reading our “Mews Nooz” ezine these past few weeks, Mikey and I have been dealing with some “ramped up”, difficult health issues for him. As a result, I’ve taken him to the Vet on several occasions for consultation and exam. (The good news is he has gained one ounce!)

Last Wednesday we went because when I had had him there the week prior for what I suspected might be a Urinary Tract Infection, they were unable to get a sample.

So this time they kept him for the whole day (8 hours), and he still did not give up any. However, they did check his blood pressure and his T4 blood level. His T4 is a “5” now (a little higher than the Vet likes) but it’s the blood pressure (250/185) that gave us all pause. (more…)

Mikey – *Numero Uno*

GE DIGITAL CAMERAEvery year for the last 17 YEARS, we McGreeveys have celebrated the “actual” birthday of one Mr. Mikey!

He is 17 years old today – that’s actual years, not gotcha years.

Today is no different “thought-wise”, although it is different in that our “celebration team” is getting smaller and smaller!

birthday-cake-smallTwo of us (Billy and I) are left to make some noise and carry on for the eight of us (6 kitties and two humans) that once were.

We used to get birthday cake (that Chuck and I would eat) and ice cream (again, we’d eat it) to celebrate Mikey’s special day. And Chuck would get a new toy or two for Mikey.

Focus, focus

Monday, January 20th, 2014

billy_mikey_onbox2Perhaps like some of you, I have occasions where I get a little scatter-brained or tend to be a bit loopy. At those times, Chuck used to encourage me to “focus, focus”.

And so I still try to remember this mantra when I’m going about my day doing various activities.

One such activity the other day had to do with Mikey and Billy as they ate breakfast. I had just returned from Curves and knew it was time to give Mikey his “ear drops”. (Actually, it’s a medicated cream for his hyperthyroidism that I put onto the inside of his ear.)

As Mikey ate, I decided it would be a perfect time to give him his medication as he would be distracted from what I was doing.

So I got the applicator ready and then bent down to put the cream on his ear. But he balked a bit; like he was saying, “leave me alone, I want to eat”. I’m glad he did, as when he looked up at me, I realized I was in the process of getting ready to put the medication into Billy’s ear!

16 and counting

Monday, July 1st, 2013

16 years ago today, Mikey

joined the world as “God’s gift to humans”! And eventually Chuck and I were the lucky recipients.

Mikey was a “triplet”–a brother, Daniel, (who came with Mikey) and a sister, who went to another home. Sadly, Daniel went to the Rainbow Bridge rather young quite a few years ago.

Perhaps that’s why Mikey has always seemed to live life so rambunctiously; he’s living for two!

Happy birthday, Mikey!

Yours in sharing Mikey’s 16th birthday,

and “The Boys”

The Baby!

Monday, June 24th, 2013

GE DIGITAL CAMERAI wish you could see him! “The Baby” – Mikey, that is.

He continues to let me hold him in my arms, while he’s on his back.

He loves it; in fact, it’s almost like he’s craving that sort of attention now.

At times, he will even “act up” if I don’t pay attention to him like he thinks I ought to; “act up”–as in do whatever he can to get me to notice him.

Sometimes this can be chasing after Billy, jumping up on the chair in front of me (if I am preoccupied), climbing onto my lap to block my view of the monitor, and, of course, the ever insistent loud “look at me” M-E-O-W!

He will struggle a bit in a moment or two of uncertainty when I first pick him up; I suppose he’s unsure of what I’m going to do, and then will settle down to be cuddled.

Yours in cuddling with your kitty,

and “The Boys”

P.S. Maybe he needs a diversion of some sort to occupy him when I’m gone. His brothers certainly aren’t doing it.

Tap, Tap, Tap

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

For those of you with “multiple” cats, what sort of sibling rivalry boys2 (if any) do you have going on at your house?

For the most part, ours is minimal, although it seems to get on Billy’s very last paw nerve when Mikey takes over my lap!

After all, my lap is Billy’s territory.

When Mikey gets to my lap before Billy, Billy will come to me, sit on the couch beside me and give me a dirty look. (As if to say, “How could I let some other kitty take over his spot!)

If I “ignore” Billy, he will lift up one of his front paws and tap me on the arm–gently at first–and then a bit forceful if I don’t pay attention to him.

Billy knows that sooner or later Mikey will move away or Billy will manage to scoot around enough to make room for himself on my lap alongside Mikey!

Eventually, though, Mikey will get tired of “sharing the lap”, and take off like a wild thing!

Yours in kitties make their special space,

and “The Boys”

P.S. If we use Da Bird Cat Catcher Cat Toy to distract Mikey away from my lap, Billy will be a very happy kitty!

What do you mean I’m fat?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

cat-in-doorJust as with you and me, it is possible for your beloved kitty to gain so much weight that he or she becomes obese.

And, as a result, kitty has to deal with some of the health concerns we humans do. Most commonly, a cat’s obese problem is attributed to nutrition. (Sound familiar?)

Kitties, though, not like us, can’t “go to the gym” to workout or “push himself away from the table” when he hits “full”! Although Billy is pretty good about “walking away”. Mikey, and definitely Jonny, not so much! (more…)
